How consignment works

All of the clothing and toys at Jelly Bean's are on consignment. This means that you receive 40% of the sales price when your items sell. Consignment is not cash up front. It is simple, profitable, and safe.

  1. Bring your items in. Your items should be clean and ready for sale. Bring your items in anytime between 9am and 5pm Wednesday - Friday. Please note there is a daily maximum of 1 laundry basket or 3 large items per customer. If you need to bring in more than that, let us know and we'll schedule an appointment.
  2. We'll review your items. We'll check that your items are ready for sale and that they are in season and in style so that we can be confident that we'll be able to sell them for you. The review process only takes a few minutes, so we ask that you stay in the store during that time. We'll provide you with a Consigner ID that you'll use to monitor your sales online and watch your profits grow!
  3. Your items sell. 40% of the sales price is automatically added to your account. With your account you can:
    • Shop in the store with your account funds and receive 10% off items priced up to the amount in your account.
    • Come in and receive cash up to $30 (subject to availability of cash on hand).
    • Call and request a check to pick up or have mailed. Allow for one business day for checks to be processed. A fee of $1.00 will be assessed for mailed checks.
  4. Give it some time. The current consignment term is a minimum of 3 months. This means your items will have at least 60 days at full price and approximately 30 days with discounts of up to 50% before finally being placed in our $1 sale. Dollar sales are held 4 times a year and are announced on our website. When the dollar sale has concluded, we donate anything that was not sold to a worthy charity that will not selll your items, but will pass them along free of charge to people that truly need them.

Worried about your items not selling? We have a very high sell through rate (about 93%). Every item you bring into our store is your property and can be retrieved by you at any time. It is soley your responsibility to remove items from the store before they are donated. We are interested in selling the great items you bring to us, not in donating them. We are committed to a mutually beneficial relationship and hope that your experience not only brings you back season after season, but also brings your family and friends.

Ocassionally we find a defect with an item after we have accepted it for sale. If it is just a few pieces of clothing, they will be donated. If it is a piece of equipment, we will ask you to pick them up. If you do not respond to us or fail to pick up the items within a reasonable amount of time we will dispose of them.
